Fake police detective pulls theater heist

ASSOCIATED PRESS

8:41 a.m. August 19, 2008

BUENA PARK – A man with a badge and gun posed as a police detective to get into a back office and rob a Buena Park movie theater.

Sgt. Bill Kohanek says the phony detective tied up the manager and assistant manager of the Krikorian Buena Park Metroplex 18 theaters, grabbed cash and surveillance camera hard drives, then fled.

Investigators say the man walked into the theaters Monday afternoon wearing a crisp white shirt and a gun on his hip.

Kohanek says the bogus cop handed over a business card identifying himself as a police detective and he told the manager he was investigating robberies.
